Mapping the Heavens: Time, Stars, and Eternity Through Egyptian Eyes
How did the ancient Egyptians envision the sky above them? The heavens were a canvas of myth, memory, and cosmic order. This talk explores how the Egyptians translated the movements of stars and planets into powerful visual narratives that decorated tombs, temples, and coffins. Through a closer look at celestial diagrams—from the star maps of the Middle Kingdom to the richly symbolic ceilings of the New Kingdom and beyond—we will uncover how astronomy, art, and beliefs in rebirth were interwoven in one of history’s most enduring civilizations.
Drawing on recent research and vivid imagery, the lecture reveals how these ancient star maps were not just scientific tools, but deeply spiritual compositions that reflected a unique way of seeing the universe—one where time was cyclical, the soul could rise with the stars, and eternity was written across the night sky.
